Settled by the Mormons in the 1800′s, the population is still sixty percent Mormon, which influences daily life. With the creation of two national parks in the 1900′s, the state fast became known for its stunning natural beauty. The Alta Ski Area was established in 1939, earning Utah the reputation as an international premier ski resort, helping it win the site for the 2002 Winter Olympics

Tourism is big in Utah with year round outdoor recreational and other attractions. With five national parks now (Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Arches, Capitol Reef and Zion), it numbers only after California and Alaska in this natural asset. It also has numerous national monuments, recreation areas and forests to its credit and to enjoy exploring.

It has one of the oldest arts councils in the country as well, resulting in such rich cultural activities as the famed Sundance Film Festival, founded by Robert Redford, the Utah Shakespearean Festival and Temple Square. And as part of the Mormon heritage and culture there, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is known throughout the world.

In addition to these natural and artistic attractions, here some other things you will enjoy. Angel’s Landing is the site of one of the most spectacular views in Zion and can be reached by a challenging hiking trail.  Best Friends Animal sanctuary is a world reknown animal sanctuary that rescues and accepts unwanted animals each year. Take a tour or volunteer for a day at this inspirational facility. The Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City is an outstanding way to spend an indoor day and Magpie Cycling Adventures offers outstanding bike trips in Moab, Canyonlands National Park and more. Or you may choose to take a trail ride with Canyon Trail Rides in Bryce Canyon National Park. The mules know the way!
